Rep. Jaime Churches Committed to Lowering Costs, Boosting Small Business To Help Michigan Families

State Representative Jaime Churches, an educator and community advocate representing Michigan's 27th House District, says her priority is meeting the needs of families by lowering costs and supporting small businesses.

“Small businesses are the fabric of our community. They provide countless jobs and help to create a robust economy,” says Rep. Churches on her web site.

In the time between 2018 and 2022, Michigan’s median household income was $68,505, trailing behind the national median household income of $74,580. Amidst the backdrop of this economic reality for Michiganders, Rep. Churches’ mentions that families struggle because their wages are not enough. In response, Rep. Churches says she wants to put money back into Michiganders’ pockets by lowering taxes, protecting pensions, and pushing higher minimum pay.

Michigan is home to over 908,000 small businesses that employ 1.9 million people, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration. Rep. Churches says she pledges to support efforts to get the state legislature to deliver help and resources to small businesses. She lists that she wants to provide the businesses with the appropriate tools, access for businesses owners to reach their representatives, and policy.

As a state representative, Churches says she is committed to amplifying the voices of Downriver residents who feel underserved by Lansing. She aims to address the lack of investment in public education, small businesses, and working families, which has led to hardships and inequity in the region.
